THE FIFTH PILLAR OF LITERACY
Lexile Vocabulary
Vocabulary Tools to Cultivate Strong, Engaged Readers
We offer two research-based vocabulary tools that can support this critical aspect of literacy and add significant value to your product:
- Lexile® WordBank is a licensable database of words to support the development of curriculum materials and assessments that target vocabulary students should already know or to introduce new words at the right stage of learning.
- Lexile® PowerV®, an add-on to the Lexile® Text Analyzer Content Creator, takes the content you’re developing and produces a vocabulary list of challenging words a student should know when reading a particular text. Teachers can use these lists to support differentiated instructional resources, games, practice sheets and teacher guides.

“Vocabulary is a pillar of literacy and growing readers need to build on their vocabulary foundation as they encounter more complex and content-specific texts. A robust vocabulary, coupled with background knowledge helps learners enjoy reading and develop into lifelong readers.”
