As we continue our recovery from the global pandemic, MetaMetrics is thrilled to share resources to help address summer learning. Although the needs and the very purpose of engaging in summer learning have changed dramatically in these last few years, we hope you still find these resources valuable and building blocks toward a robust initiative. MetaMetrics offers free and easy-to-use tools to encourage summer learning. You can use these tools to help students find reading materials at their ability level. Research estimates that summer learning loss can be about a third of what was learned in the previous school year.¹ And by grade 5, summer learning loss can magnify the achievement gap leaving low-income students two-and-a-half to three years behind their peers.²

Fighting summer learning loss has long been a focus for MetaMetrics. Our CEO and Co-founder, Malbert Smith, Ph.D., serves on the board of the National Summer Learning Association. And now more than ever there’s a dire need to prevent summer learning loss. Multiple studies by Achieve3000 and NWEA have shown the detrimental impact of school closures that result in additional learning loss.
